Sexy Inc. Our Children Under Influence

Sex sells. The visual media in general are over sexing our youth. The National Film Board of Canada has an interesting documentary about the exploitation of the youth culture who are exposed daily to sexual images and how it is having a profound influence in their thinking. Kids in their early teens should be thinking about having fun. There are no longer any barriers. Mothers are now dressing like they are still younger than they should be. Their relationships with their kids are friend based at the same level. Constantly bombarded with bawdy images and language each day from early morning till they come home to watch shows that have way too much sexual content.
 
Today’s youth can only emulate what is presented to them in front of their screens. The Internet is a free flow sea of sex for all to easily dip in. Sophie Bissonnette’s documentary, Sexy Inc. Our Children Under Influence, explores the harsh realities of this generation of kids who are headed straight into adulthood and skipping their precious teen years. It’s really confusing for parents who want their kids to grow up right and are fighting an uphill battle when everything around them is telling their kids to sex it up. How can a parent battle the odds of a struggle like this? Sexy Inc. Our Children Under Influence is eye opening visual presentation and a concern for parents who are unaware or just don’t want to bother with their kids. Special effects will play a major role in upgrading the B-movie classic. Why stop at remaking classic movies like this. Why not remake Gone With the Wind and Citizen Kane. Has the well dried up that much in Hollywood? The Blob was a failure as a remake and there is a long list of movies that tried the same formula. Big budgets and star power will make or break this movie. Keanu Reeves’ star has lost a little shine, hope this will put a little shine back on it.

The surge of gratuitous sex and violence has found a new domain to breed this vile culture for kids to absorb like sponges. Parents are quite content to welcome this cesspool of degradation into their houses without flinching an eyelid. They have become the baby-sisters of many impressionable young minds. The gaming industry has become ever so over the top with many new games and exploit the crustier side of humanity. The gaming world have done their part by affixing labels that clearly indicate the appropriate age for these games. Finger pointing can be assigned to many but as a society we have to burden ourselves with a legal responsibility to create better games for our youth. There are many gaming industry people who are making a valiant effort to bring them to the public.

 
One good example is the game Spore where you create amazing new worlds and you can play with your imagination at a whim. The game is gaining a vast following and has upgraded to new spawn of the original game. Galactic Spore leaves you wanting more and more. This is a great way to really explore kids’ minds with games that challenge young ones to create whole new worlds. There should be more games like this that come to the forefront and show parents killing and degrading humanity in games is not the only way to have fun. What kind of young people will grow out of these games? Give us something like Spore and we will better as a society. From Backgammon and Chess that with simple standard rules that have the universality of black versus white or us versus them will always enjoy popularity form many more centuries to come. I believe that Pac-Man will outpace more recent gaming because of the simplicity of the idea. Will Spore be a timeless game, maybe not, but it’s  going in the right direction in helping kids appreciate good gaming.
