The Adobe “Project Mighty” Connected Pen

Adobe XD

I am trying to get away from using a pencil and paper for my art projects.  There are many tools for the artist out there like the iPad, Surface and Dell XPS 18. Now along comes the Adobe “Project Mighty” connected pen. This pen might just revolutionize the way we jot down our ideas and expand upon them.  The future is not quite here, we will have to wait a bit more.  I will get in line for one of these pens. I will miss my pencil sharpener.

We actually started project Mighty, our “cloud pen” to help us focus on the future of drawing. I’ve always been a little obsessed with drawing. An early mentor of mine said: “If you can’t draw, you can’t think. I guess I took that to heart. The good news is that absolutely anyone can train himself or herself to draw. With the right tools to support you it’s a little bit like learning to ride a bike – you just have to keep doing it until you tease out your own style of drawing.

North American English Dialects, Based on Pronunciation Patterns

North American English Dialects map

When you need subtitles on shows where English is the first language of the person in North America, you have to conclude that there are may many dialects of English.  Linguist Rick Aschmann amassed information on North American English dialects, based on pronunciation patterns. This is a hobby of his and with careful analysis of his site, one can get some interesting data of the movement and history of the people who migrated to those areas.   If you are into linguistic history and culture this site is a wealth of information.

“This is just a hobby of mine, that I thought might be interesting to a lot of people. Some people collect stamps. Others collect coins. I collect dialects.”

George Carlin The Infinite Romeo

george carlin

George Carlin the romantic? Here is an example of a love letter written to his wife (Sally Wade aka SALLYBURGER).  And who said comedians were not were not lovers.  George’s stuff might not be Hallmark material but this is as classic as any man’s love a woman.

SALLYBURGER,

If you took THE NUMBER OF SUB-ATOMIC PARTICLES IN THE UNIVERSE and multiplied that number times itself THAT MANY TIMES; and then added the total number of MICRO-SECONDS since the beginning of time, times itself; and then added 803—you would STILL have only the tiniest fraction of A BILLION-BILLIONTH PER CENT of the amount of love I HAVE FOR YOU.

Love,

your candle partner,
the romantic Mr Carlin,
your eternal flame.

Twelve Types of Social Media Users

Twelve Types of Social Media Users

According to First Direct’s infograph there are 12 types of social media users. Which one are you?

  • The Ultras - For many habitual social media users, the networks are their primary communications link to family and friends.
  • The Deniers – Those who say that social media does not control their lives. But when they can’t access their favourite social network for an extended period they become anxious.
  • The Dippers – These are not regular social media users. They access their accounts infrequently often for days or even weeks without posting an update.
  • The Virgins – These are the new people that sign up to social media.
  • The Lurkers – They just watch other people and rarely participate in social media conversations.
  • The Peacocks – They see social networks as an opportunity to show everyone how popular they are. They judge their social standing by the number of followers they have or the number of likes or retweets their posts have.
  • The Ranters – Ranters are highly opinionated online but are often quiet in face to face conversations.
  • The Ghosts – These are the people that like to participate in conversations but do not give out their personal information.
  • The Changelings – For some people being anonymous is not enough so they adapt different personalities.
  • The Quizzers – Quizzers like to ask questions on Facebook and Twitter to start conversations.
  • The Informers – Informers are usually the people who shares the news first to gather likes and retweets.
  • The Approval-Seekers – People in this group worry about the number of likes or retweets their comments or their posts make.

Ripe Tomato Hairdo

Here is a hairdo that the  Jolly Green Giant and Little Sprout would be proud of. The ripe tomato hairdo is hot in Japan, it will take a bit of time before it will ketchup in America.

“The style is called “Ripe Tomato” (“kanjuku tomato” or ?????). It was done by a stylist named “Hiro” at an Osaka salon called “Trick Store”, which is located the city’s hipster youth district, Amemura.”

My Dog: The Paradox: A Lovable Discourse about Man’s Best Friend

Everybody has a Paradox dog at one time or another.  Matthew Inman’s unique dog Paradox tale garnered over 700 000 likes on Facebook.  If you fell for his feline escapades of, How to Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting to Kill You, then you will fall in love with Paradox. Being a dog lover myself, I found the hilarity of Paradox to be true to my own two dogs.  My Dog: The Paradox: A Lovable Discourse about Man’s Best Friend will a great addition to any book collection.  Matthew Inman is the Charles M. Schulz of the 21st century.

“We will never know why dogs fear hair dryers, or being baited into staring contests with cats, but as Inman explains, perhaps we love dogs so much “because their lives aren’t lengthy, logical, or deliberate, but an explosive paradox composed of fur, teeth, and enthusiasm.”

Carved Crayons

Pete Goldlust loves to carve pencils.  I love the intricacies of his designs. The only thing I could do with a crayon and a sharp blade is get a wasted Sunday afternoon in the emergency with paper towel paper wrapped around a bleeding finger or two.  I will leave such tasks to experienced individuals. My thumb is still throbbing from my last mishap. Somewhere in Vancouver there is a totem pole wishing it was blinged out  like these carvings.

Awful Animals: Ugly Dolls Knockoff

awful-animals

Talk about a blatant rip off. Awful Animals is copying the success of the Ugly Dolls line. This is what happens when your products are made in China. Manufacturers will knockoff your product at a lower cost. Imitation might be a form of flattery, but this is ridiculous.  I can hear Kevin O’Leary leering in my thoughts about mass producing products such as this in China without proper copyright. At one tenth of the cost of an Ugly Doll, the Awful Animals seem like a bargain. This is awful!

G is for Edward Gorey and Google

Edward-Gorey-Google

Google Doodle celebrates Edward Gorey’s 88th birthday if he were alive today. He checked out in the year 2000.

g is for george“Fifty years ago, in 1963, Edward Gorey published a trio of books in an olive-colored, hand-lettered slipcase entitled ‘The Vinegar Works: Three Volumes of Moral Instruction’. The three books were ‘The Insect God’, ‘The West Wing’, and ‘The Gashlycrumb Tinies’. All three books would eventually define Gorey’s style, and ‘The Gashlycrumb Tinies’ became his most enduring work.”
