Megalodon was very similar to today’s great white shark—except in size. The great white can grow to about 25 feet long and weigh about 2 tons (4,000 pounds). But scientists believe megalodon grew up to 50 feet long and might have weighed close to 50 tons!
Megalodon ate anything it wanted. Its huge and powerful jaws were packed with 6-inch-tall, razor-edged, triangular teeth that sliced through its prey. Megalodon probably hunted the biggest fish and whales that swam the oceans of the Cenozoic era.
