Tamagotchi Are Back

Tamagotchi app

In 1977 Tamagotchi was such a huge craze. They are back! Within the past month the Tamagotchi app has reached 600, 000 downloads. With disposable time to spare, I guess social media is not enough for some sleep deprived individuals.

“It’s Tamagotchi’s Sweet 16 this year and we’re giving you the gift! Bandai has created the first ever Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. App, based on the original virtual pet, and it’s yours, FREE!

It’s just like the virtual pet you loved, only better; it’s in COLOR, features more characters and higher resolution and a place to keep your Tamagotchi collection.”

DrawQuest: Free iPad App

drawquest

DrawQuest is making artists out of non-artists.  There are so many good little free apps for iPad out there.  DrawQuest takes the learning curve out of the equation and lets you have fun like a kid. Sure it was designed for kids, that should not stop that inner-child and go crazy with DrawQuest. It is more than drawing, it’s an adventure.

“Every day, people come together on DrawQuest to draw the Quest of the Day. What’s a Quest? It’s a challenge to use your imagination and complete a drawing!”

Fresh Paint for Windows 8

The Gerd Arntz Memory Game

Spend hours playing the Gerd Arntz Memory Game. The free app showcases 250 pictograms Gerd Arntz drew between 1928 and 1965 from a collection of 4,000 in his lifetime. He was an interesting character.

“As a politically engaged graphic artist and designer Gerd Arntz (1900-1988) portrayed the world in wood and linoleum cuts. During the 1920s, he conveyed his vision on social wrongs and the rise of Nazism in Germany in his prints. He did this in such a simple, direct style that anyone – regardless of their education and nationality – was able to understand his images.”

Letterpress Printing App for iPad

New school meets old school. You can have your own letterpress within the confines of your iPad without the mess. The virtual press from LetterMpress is a Kickstarter project that could be a reality with funds. I am Mpressed.

Punch Your Friends

Now why would you want to punch your friends? Seems counterproductive in maintaining friendships. Punch Your Friends is a fun app to clobber some of your friends and enemies. Even your boss. Another useless app making a splash for a week or two. It’s free. If I had to pay for this I think Phillip Kaplan would be punch worthy.

Take pictures of your friends and then “virtually” punch them by tapping the screen. Fun sounds and bruising effects. Email the final, altered photo to share it with your friends.

Word Lens: Universal Translator

Word Lens: Universal Translator

Globetrotting just got a little easier. Word Lens is like something out of the Star Trek universe, a universal translator. The clever app can translate any printed sign you encounter on your trips.

Instantly translate printed words from one language to another with your built-in video camera, in real time! Use Word Lens on vacation, business travel, and just for fun.

The App Girlfriend

Many are already living a social fantasy world. Why not go the distance. Now you can download your own app girlfriend. The Honey It’s Me! app from South Korean company Nabix created the application where a girl named Mina sends video messages to lonely guys. She is a virtual girlfriend for the imagination. This has the sounds of a Big Bang Theory episode. The company claims that they have sold over 80,000 app downloads at $1.99 and counting. Nabix is working on an English version of their app. This would do wonders for Brett Favre.

One user stated on Twitter: “It’s a blessing for all single men.” Another added: “Mina called me while I was working overtime. This is just great.”

Finger Painting Without Paint

The iPad is truly a miracle little device. You can finger paint amazing portraits with just your finger. Painting and art has always been about the eye and hand movement with a lot of patience. Brushes for iPad is a tool that will leave any studio void of any paint and mess. David Kassan executes paintings with ease with Brushes and other artistic apps that will drive artists into more portable environments. Artists don’t have to be a slave to the computer, they can now free themselves with the mobility of the iPad. These are truly pioneering times in the art world.

Google App Inventor: Create an Android App

Apps are the latest toys for everybody who have mobile gadgets. Apple apps are at an all-time high. Google apps enjoy the same popularity. Now Google is letting you make your own apps with ease. Google App Inventor lets you create apps in seconds. Will Apple follow suit and let the public have some fun too.

Not only is the Android Market (Android Market) an open platform for developers (with no approval process, ala the App Store (App Store), but now we’ll likely see a vast array of specialized apps built by non-developers. This could radically increase the volume of apps in the Market versus the App Store.

Doodle Jump Passes Five Million Downloads

doodle jump app

Igor and Marko Pusenjak, two brothers originally from Croatia were looking to make a little side money in 2009 when they created Doodle Jump. What they created within a year spawned over 5 million downloads. Doodle Jump sells for 99 cents in the iTunes store with sales growing each day. When first introduced the game was a slow seller till they got some buzz from Jimmy Fallon “Late Night” show and Lady Gaga and sales went through the roof since. There is already talk of an animated series based on Doodle the Doodler.

I remember a moment of frustration when we were selling only 20 or 30 copies a day,” he said, “then we made it into the top 25 apps and we’ve been there for almost a year now.”

New Lego App

Lego always finds cool ways to promote and re-invent the wheel when it comes to their brand. It’s seems Lego has a stranglehold on our youth. Those little interlocked blocks that fuel our imagination is a thing that passes from one generation to the next. Lego has jumped into the app business too with their latest Lego offering that turns your photos into Lego landscapes with ease. The free app is loads of fun for the Lego artistically challenged individuals who want to make a visual statement. Make fun Lego wallpapers for your iPhone to share with compliments from the new free Lego app.

Pluto Pluto Sound Toy for the iPhone

Pluto Pluto Sound Toy for the iPhone from Pluto Pluto on Vimeo.

If you are holding out to get an iPhone, here is another mindless reason to either get one or not depending how constructive your time is to you. It seems that there is new app coming out every other day. Pluto Pluto Sound Toy created by Luke Harris is the latest in the pool of vast waste of brain cells. Then again this might be your cup of tea. Looks like fun but for how long?
