Q: I am seeking accommodations near Toronto en route to the United States. Would you recommend I stay in Mississauga?
A: For years I have driven right past Mississauga www.mississauga.ca. But en route to Chicago, I decided to spend a night and personally check out Canada’s sixth largest city. With a population of more than 700,000 people, Mississauga has a well-established infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities.
Formed in 1974, Mississauga is home to Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport and the greatest concentration of major highways in the country, all of which position it to serve local, national and international markets and travelers. Local public transit is linked to Toronto and other neighbouring cities, offering a comprehensive network of bus, subway and commuter train routes.
Recognized for being the safest city in Canada, Mississauga is a known major focal point for commercial activity, rich in arts, cultural facilities, parks, entertainment, nightlife and world class sport and recreational facilities for all interests that attract residents and visitors alike. Full of tremendous shopping opportunities and home to Square One, Ontario’s largest mall, Mississauga is the place to shop till you drop.
Home to more than 18,000 businesses and a major employment centre within the GTA, Mississauga houses 50 of Canada’s Fortune 500 offices providing residents with an opportunity to work close to home. And Mississauga is green, with over 481 parks and woodlands with serene tranquil settings or passive and active recreational facilities with our lakefront parks becoming a boaters haven.

WHAT TO DO:
Back in 1973, Square One Shopping Centre took shape in the middle of farmers’ fields. Today it has grown to be the hub of Mississauga’s city centre.
Back in 1973, Square One Shopping Centre took shape in the middle of farmers’ fields. Today it has grown to be the hub of Mississauga’s city centre.
It’s a city within a city, with over 360 stores and services, four major department stores ( The Bay, Sears, Wal-mart and Zellers), over 40 places to eat, and several community-based organizations. Square One is conveniently located at highways 403 and 10, 20 minutes from downtown Toronto and 10 minutes from the Pearson Airport. I must say that it represents a strong incentive to stop over at the Monte Carlo Inns for the night and explore. Log on to www.shopsquareone.com.
