Chili’s Scranton Branch: A Pop Culture-Inspired Restaurant Celebrating TV History Opens April 7

Nearly 20 years after a fictional Pennsylvania paper company made it famous, Chili’s Grill & Bar is making Scranton a reality with the grand opening of the Chili’s Scranton Branch on April 7. This brand-new, permanent restaurant pays homage to the beloved sitcom with nostalgic decor, throwback nods, and a menu featuring the iconic Awesome Blossom, available exclusively at this location.

A Nostalgic Experience with Throwback Decor

Fans will know this isn’t your average Chili’s the moment they step inside. Guests are greeted by a giant Scranton Branch chalk mural, created by the original Chili’s artist from the early 2000s. Vintage artwork, the brand’s signature tile tables, and a perfectly recreated business lunch booth offer the ideal photo op—making visitors feel like they’ve stepped back into 2005.

The Return of the Fan-Favorite Awesome Blossom

In a move sure to thrill longtime fans, Chili’s is bringing back the Awesome Blossom—a deep-fried onion appetizer with easy-to-pull petals and served with Buffalo Ranch dipping sauce. Removed from menus in 2008, this legendary dish returns exclusively at the Scranton Branch. Fittingly, Brian Baumgartner (known for his role as Scranton’s poker champion and local band drummer) spotlights the mouthwatering appetizer in promotional ads.

“Seeing Chili’s Scranton Branch was like stepping into a time machine, especially if that time machine could also spit out the greatest appetizer of all time, the Awesome Blossom,” said Baumgartner.

Grand Opening Celebration with Sitcom Stars

To celebrate the launch, Chili’s is running multiple ads starring a few “famous locals.” Melora Hardin, Andy Buckley, and Amy Pietz introduce the Scranton Branch in a commercial styled like a classic local TV spot. The ad ends with Hardin being serenaded by the unmistakable Baby Back Ribs jingle in the booth—a perfect time capsule of 2005.

Kate Flannery also makes an appearance, promoting the Scranton Marg—a $5 margarita available nationwide for one day only on April 7. Known for her casual Friday style and Solitaire skills, Flannery praises the limited-edition cocktail as a must-try.

“I’m the daughter of a bar owner, and I’ve had enough margaritas through the years to get picky about them,” Flannery said. “The Scranton Marg is a really good one.”
