Star Trek: The Next Degeneration

Doctor-Carol-Marcus

This is not your father’s Doctor Carol Marcus. Alice Eve’s underwear scene in Star Trek Into Darkness was deemed unnecessary by some critics and moviegoers.  Damon Lindelof  has publicly apologized  for the inclusion of the gratuitous barely clothed Doctor Carol Marcus.  The scene played no significant role in any of the story arcs in the movie.

Ray Harryhausen

valley_of_gwangi

Ray Harryhausen passed away today at the age of 92.  I had the pleasure of meeting Ray Harryhausen a few years ago.  I had a custom cake made for him for his birthday.  It was decorated with plastic dinosaurs.  He blew out the candles and asked me if he could keep the dinosaur toys.  My last image of him was him walking away with my dinosaurs. He signed a cyclops picture my young daughter made for him.  He confessed to me that was the first cyclops picture he ever signed. That was a wonderful afternoon I spent with him, he will be missed by many. He was sharp even in his later life.  Ray Harryhausen was CGI before it was created.  He took clay and made it come to life.  He also brought to life many youthful filmmakers.  As a youth I fell in love with The Valley of Gwangi, Sinbad and Clash of the Titans.

The Billion Dollar Hero: Insuring Billionaire Heroes

IronManBatman

Who says billionaires don’t care. Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark spend billions on their gadgets to protect the public. I could just imagine the insurance coverage they have. I am not a great fan of the info-graph, I could not pass this one.

One would think that in the DC and Marvel universe and especially in New York City there must be an insurance that covers both super-hero and super-villain damage. I would not want to live next to The Baxter Building, the rates must be through the roof. Are you not glad that you live in a normal universe where home owners insurance is cheap.

Happy Birthday Bela Lugosi

white zombie poster Bela Lugosi birthday

October 20th marks the birthday of Bela Lugosi. If he were alive he would truly be a white zombie since he was born in 1882. His real name was Blasko Bela Ferenc Dezso. Bela Lugosi perhaps is the prime candidate to come back from the dead as he has many times in the movies, but sadly he is still not one of the walking dead. Bela’s last movie was Plan 9 from Outer Space and died on August 6th 1956 while the movie was still in production. I am surprised there is no Google Doodle paying tribute to the original scare-meister’s 130 birthday.

In Hungary, acting is a career for which one fits himself as earnestly as one studies for a degree in medicine, law, or philosophy.
