A young man who has improbably escaped death twice reveals his secret in a spine-tingling short story by New York Times bestselling author Joe Hill. Ushers: A Short Story is set to be released as a Kindle edition by Amazon Original Stories.
Martin Lorensen is a twenty-three-year-old counselor for disturbed teenagers. He’s bright, compassionate, attractive, and outgoing. He’s also—and this is the most interesting thing—not dead. Martin has improbably survived not one but two deadly disasters that claimed dozens of lives. The kid is riding one hell of a lucky streak. Two federal agents think there is something darker at play. Now that they’ve arranged to interview Martin, they want answers. Martin is ready to share everything he knows. One thing is for certain: when it comes to escaping death, luck doesn’t figure into it at all.
For those who may not be aware, Joe Hill is the son of the renowned author Stephen King. Earlier this year, Sony’s Screen Gems secured the rights to “Ushers,” an unpublished short story penned by Joe Hill. This acquisition was made under Hill’s first-look deal with the studio, a partnership that gives Sony the exclusive opportunity to develop and produce film adaptations of his work before other studios have a chance to bid. This marks another step in Hill’s growing influence in the world of horror and suspense, following in the footsteps of his legendary father.
Joe Hill was named after a prominent Swedish-American labor activist by the same name. He was a renowned songwriter, and influential member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), an organization commonly known as the Wobblies.
