Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bible!

Tapping into the Bible can lead into trouble for many who shake zealots out of their sleep. Jonathan Goldstein’s promotion of his new book, Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bible!, is to be taken with a grain of salt as is the video. I read the book recently and enjoyed the re-working of some sillier notions in the Bible. Seems lately there is an explosion of parody stories based on the Old Testament, even Year One is hitting the right chords with Jack Black as a dumb hunter falling into the annals of biblical lore.

Yes, it’s the greatest story ever told, but let’s face it: It always could have used a little punching up. In Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bible!, Jonathan Goldstein brings human depth, humour, and snappier dialogue to millennia-old biblical stories. Goldstein’s version of the Bible answers the questions you need to know: Wouldn’t a person get bored living inside a whale? How did Joseph explain Mary’s pregnancy to the guys at work? How could anyone be as dense as Samson?
