Babe Ruth’s The Mexican

When it comes to anomalies in music, Babe Ruth, is no stranger to this category. Their success, and I use that word very loosely, “The Mexican” their main song did not exactly eat up the charts in the early 70’s. The Mexican is the story of the Alamo coupled with Ennio Morricone’s soundtrack music, “For A Few Dollars More” amped up with rock chords. For many years the group thrived in a few cities throughout the world with the royalties of that one song, considering that most of it must go to Ennio. What else can a group do but to live in obscurity, you come back with a new album after 30 years. Create new songs and redo “The Mexican” twice on the album, embrace the Net and try to sell your album online. You can download a sample of their album. Considering their time off the charts, the new offering is not that bad. More nostalgic than anything but worth a listen. The thing that intrigues me about the band is that Sony Playstation honoured Babe Ruth by including the ‘Mexican Millennium’ for their new game release ‘BBoy’, a Hip-Hop-themed dancing game will let you battle against real-life superstar b-boys such as Crazy Legs, Kamel, and Mouse.
