Caroline Cash has been officially announced as the next cartoonist of the legendary Nancy comic strip. Syndicate Andrews McMeel confirmed that Cash will take over the long-running feature on January 1, 2026. Until then, newspapers and online readers will enjoy reprints of classic Nancy comics created by the strip’s most famous practitioner, Ernie Bushmiller.
Caroline Cash is no stranger to comics. She is the Eisner and Ignatz Award–winning cartoonist behind the absurdist, critically acclaimed humor comic Pee Pee Poo Poo, a series celebrated for its sharp wit, surreal storytelling, and offbeat comedy. Her bold style makes her a natural fit for Nancy, which has always thrived on a mix of simplicity, strangeness, and timeless humor.
The change comes as Olivia Jaimes, the groundbreaking yet anonymous cartoonist who rebooted Nancy in 2018, steps away after an incredible eight-year run. Jaimes’ debut sparked massive online discussion and proved that newspaper strips could still feel fresh, relevant, and culturally vital in the internet age. As the first woman to ever work on the strip, Jaimes’ use of a pseudonym and her decision to keep her true identity private only added to the intrigue surrounding her work.

During her tenure, Jaimes revitalized Nancy with a modern, self-aware style that blended Bushmiller’s gag-strip traditions with contemporary absurdism. While her run was widely praised, some readers felt the strip began to lose momentum in later years, making Cash’s arrival perfectly timed to inject new life into the beloved comic.
Cash already has history with Nancy: she previously filled in during Jaimes’ 2024 sabbatical, where her strips felt like a seamless continuation of the character’s quirky charm. With her unique sense of humor, strong grasp of comics history, and award-winning storytelling, Cash is poised to give Nancy the same kind of creative spark that Jaimes delivered back in 2018—only now with the chance to make the strip entirely her own.
Fans can expect Caroline Cash’s first official Nancy strips to debut on January 1, 2026, marking a brand-new chapter for one of the most enduring and beloved comic strips in American history.
