Not All It’s Cracked Up To Be

Content is king. Writers are striking because they want to get their share of Internet revenues. The Internet is making many people rich unlike the first bust that put many sites out of business. Just like the Klondike, many sites became ghost sites. From the ashes arose new sites and ideas. The music, book, and movie industry are feeling the wrath of these changes. Many had to adapt to the new standards or let the new players wipe them out of existence or piracy would do them in too. Sink or swim. Newspapers loosing readers, bloggers gaining readers. Magazines disappearing from shelves. One such magazine was “Cracked” which tried to come back, but had to go back to the net for survival after their revival in print form. Their site is thriving now. Is this the example of the future? Marvel Entertainment seems to think so with their 2500 comic book release online pay site for the masses. Many magazines are going to find out that printing just costs too much. Omni gave up that gig many years ago. Gone are the ads, impressions and hits is the future. Will writers and artists be paid by such a fee structure based on hits. Content is king, but you can’t live on bread and water. Cracked is a sound way to live on your past and build something new.
