New Asterix Comic, Asterix In Lusitania

Asterix

The final cover for Asterix in Lusitania, the newest adventure written by FABCARO and illustrated by Didier Conrad, has been revealed ahead of its global release later this month. In this forty-first volume, Asterix, Obelix, and their faithful companion Dogmatix set off for ancient Portugal, a land enduring the same Roman rule as their native Gaul. The album will be published worldwide on October 28, 2025, marking another milestone in the beloved series. Readers can look forward to two separate English translations: Papercutz will release the American English edition, while Sphere will publish the British English version. Powerful sales are expected for Asterix in Lusitania, where the story’s setting is sure to resonate deeply.

“One beautiful spring morning, a stranger appears in the Gaulish village. He’s from Lusitania, the sun-drenched land to the west of Hispania, which is also under the Roman Empire’s thumb. This former slave, who first featured in The Mansions of the Gods, has come to ask our indomitable Gauls for help because he knows about the Magic Potion and its powerful effects. And so begins another adventure for Asterix and Obelix!!”

“I wanted a cover that doesn’t have a specific action but instead is contemplative, that gives more of an idea of the mood and the setting than of the story itself, and that, with a single image, makes you want to go to Portugal,” said writer FABCARO. “Almost a vacation postcard, where you feel the sun and smell the ocean just by looking at it. Mind you, we still added a few small elements from the story, which we’ll let you figure out.” “For the image revealed in March, it seemed clear to me that we should feature calçada portuguesa and pay tribute to the incredible artisans who cut and placed every black-and-white stone by hand, as well as referring to the celebrated bacalhau (in other words, the famous cod),” said illustrator Didier Conrad. “For the cover, I took a different, more direct approach. Here we have a typical street, again with specific allusions to Portugal, and I used the warm, comforting colours characteristic of Mediterranean countries. In both cases, I think you’ll recognise the destination at a glance!”

What is the book about?

One crisp and cheerful spring morning, peace in the small Gaulish village is interrupted by the arrival of an unexpected visitor. The newcomer hails from Lusitania, a sun-drenched region to the west of Hispania, where Roman legions still hold the people in a tight grip. This visitor is not a stranger; he is a former slave whom readers may recall from The Mansions of the Gods, a man whose life was forever changed by witnessing the astonishing power of the Magic Potion.

Carrying tales of his homeland’s suffering and the growing unrest under Roman occupation, he has come to seek the help of Asterix, Obelix, and the ever-faithful Dogmatix. Moved by his plea and never one to ignore a chance to defy the might of Rome, Asterix rallies his friend for another grand adventure.

Their journey takes them far beyond the familiar forests of Gaul to the rolling hills and sun-baked coasts of ancient Portugal, where new allies, fierce foes, and plenty of laughter await. As always, the tale is filled with clever wordplay, daring exploits, and a celebration of friendship, courage, and resistance against tyranny—the timeless spirit that defines every Asterix adventure.
