Hello Kitty and SPAM Bring Poutine to the Party

A delicious adventure is taking flight, and I just got introduced to Poutine SPAM. Seriously, are you guys trying to land me back in the hospital? My cardiologist would definitely not be happy with this one.

The SPAM brand and Hello Kitty have officially teamed up for their first-ever limited-edition collectible can, and somehow this adorable partnership has led us straight to SPAM Poutine. I never thought I’d see the day, but here we are.

Available for a limited time, the collaboration is more than just a cute face on a can. It’s part of a worldwide culinary campaign celebrating the many ways SPAM has found a home in kitchens around the globe. Put Hello Kitty on the label, add a little nostalgia, and you’ve got a collectible that fans will be hunting down faster than the last toy in a Happy Meal.

The campaign follows Hello Kitty and SPAMMY, the brand’s mascot, on a globe-trotting food adventure featuring some of the world’s most recognizable SPAM dishes.

Canada gets SPAM Poutine, which takes our beloved mountain of fries, squeaky cheese curds, and gravy and tosses in pan-seared chunks of SPAM. My arteries just filed a formal complaint.

Hawaii is represented by Musubi, the classic combination of grilled SPAM, sushi rice, and nori. Korea gets Bibimbap, a colourful rice bowl packed with vegetables, egg, and SPAM cubes. Japan rounds things out with a comforting bowl of ramen topped with crispy slices of the famous canned meat.

“This collaboration brings together two brands with incredibly passionate fan communities and a shared ability to spark joy across generations,” said Stephanie Swift, brand manager of the SPAM brand.

She’s probably right. Pair one of the world’s most recognizable characters with one of the world’s most recognizable cans and you’ve got a recipe for success. This stuff is going to fly off store shelves.

The promotion is being supported through the new Tour de Sizzle campaign, an interactive online experience that lets fans explore recipes, discover hidden easter eggs, collect digital passport stamps, and unlock exclusive content along the way.

And if that isn’t enough, fans can enter the Tour de Sizzle sweepstakes through June 23 for a chance to win exclusive merchandise bundles and limited-edition products.

As for me, I’m still trying to process the idea of SPAM Poutine. Part of me is horrified. Another part of me is wondering if I should add extra gravy.

That’s probably how they get you.
