Has it been already 71 years? Google doodles is celebrating the 71st anniversary of the release of the classic Wizard of Oz which premiered nationally on August 25th, 1939. The Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, Dorothy, Toto and the Tin Man head down the yellow brick road to Emerald City as the word “Google” is sprawled on the landscape.
Here are 71 interesting things you might not know about the movie.
- Reports suggest each Munchkin earned $50 per week, while Toto bagged $125 per week.
- The head winged monkey is called Nikko – also the name of the Japanese town home to the shrine featuring the Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil monkeys.
- Baum thought up the name for Oz when looking at his filing cabinets, organized A-N and O-Z.
