A Nation Without School Librarians

The source of knowledge begins when most teachers take the kids to the school library and expose them to books on a weekly basis. Many communities with strapped budgets would like you to believe otherwise. The decline of the school librarian will have deep repercussions that will ripple the child’s love for books and not nurture their curiosity in book learning. The school library is the building block for kids to go off and discover new worlds within those four walls. Without the guidance of a librarian, the keeper of knowledge there will not be much of a need for them to go off exploring. You are cutting the root of learning by getting rid of the school librarian and most young minds will not blossom to full potential. The above map encompasses the growing decline of the librarian in American schools, the trend is disturbing and the youth of America are the ones to suffer in the coming years.

This map marks the cities, towns, communities, and states that have made the decision to either eliminate certified school library positions (indicated in blue) or require one school librarian to work with two (2) or more school library programs throughout the week (indicated in red).

Although hundreds of studies show the impact that School Librarians have on student achievement, these school districts believe otherwise.
