Batman Theme by Celio Balona is a crazy psychedelic trip

Many garage bands covered the original Batman Theme. The theme by Neal Hefti is covered by such acts as Link Wray, Voivod, The Jam, The Who, and The Kinks. The eleven cries of “Batman!” are sung by a chorus of four tenors and four sopranos (performed by The Ron Hicklin Singers). Jan & Dean covered the Batman theme song on their 1966 album, Jan and Dean Meet Batman. I found this rare version by Brazilian artist Celio Balona. This spacey campy version is really out there. Munster Records recently re-issued a 7″ vinyl record of this obscure recording.

    Jan and Dean meet Batman

Brazilian psych gem!! This cover of the ‘Batman Theme’ by Celio Balona is really something else, as crazy and psychedelic as the tale of Batman traveling to Mars could suggest. Cosmic sound effects, drum breaks, organ riffs and a snotty voice-over building an increasingly chaotic atmosphere that eventually lets the ‘Batman theme‘ explode?

To round off this fab compacto, the B side hides another gem: ‘Tema De Ônibus‘, a brass section-led instrumental jazz track for the dancefloor with Farfisa sounds, just perfect for those into mod jazz! First time 7″ reissue.
