Cake Wrecks the Book

Cake Wrecks is a site created by Jen Yates since May 2008. Like many blogs out there that have found their way to published form, Jen has a unique blend of wry went commenting on pictures sent to her of some of the worst cakes created by self-proclaimed bakers. Cake Wrecks is witness to some horribly gone wrong cake ideas for special occasions. Some cake decorators are not the most artistically gifted folks. What happens when you open that box and get the worst cake in your life? For many it brings tears, others laughter, but in the end they are cake wrecks. I know many a cake decorator who are all thumbs and Jen’s blog is too close to home for me. The book promises 75 percent never-before-seen content not published online.

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate – you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it’s simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I’m not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.
