Captain Harlock Space Pirate: The Complete TV Series [Blu-ray]

As a longtime Captain Harlock fan, I've seen this series before, but this Blu-ray set offers the best quality yet. A must-have for any Harlock fans!

Captain Harlock is nothing short of incredible, especially when you consider its age. It’s a true classic that has stood the test of time. As a longtime fan of the Captain Harlock universe, I’ve watched this series before, but I have to say, this Blu-ray set is by far the best quality you will get. The episodes are beautifully remastered, with a crisp, clean look that truly enhances the viewing experience. The subtitling is also top-notch, making the dialogue clear and accessible. I’m thrilled with this release—it’s a must-have for any fan of the series!

This 42-episode series, originally aired in 1978, is based on the first Harlock manga series. The series was crafted by the legendary Leiji Matsumoto and directed by the equally esteemed Rin Taro (now known as Rintaro), with animation produced by Toei. It quickly became a hit, not just in Japan but around the globe. In France and Quebec, the series is famously known as “Albator,” while in Latin America, it goes by the name “Capitán Raymar.”

I find the show immensely enjoyable, especially with its tone being noticeably darker than that of Galaxy Express 999. The art style is also distinctive and engaging, offering a visual experience that stands out even today. This is a superb example of early Japanese anime that goes beyond mere spectacle—it delivers a coherent, intriguing plot that keeps you hooked. The series shines in its character development, making it a must-watch for anyone who appreciates anime or animation with depth.

In this epic tale of high-seas adventure, Toei Animation brings to life a timeless story of rebellion, courage, and the fight for humanity’s future. Join Captain Harlock as he battles against the forces of tyranny and alien invasion in a swashbuckling saga that transcends time and space!

The year is 2799, and humanity has barely clawed its way back from the edge of annihilation. Though a new utopia has emerged from the ashes, it stands on shaky ground, its peace delicate and deceptive. Unbeknownst to the oblivious masses, a sinister alien race known as the Mazon has already begun their invasion of Earth, threatening to plunge the planet back into chaos.

Humanity’s leaders, complacent and self-assured, have lulled their people into a state of apathetic contentment, masking the looming danger with hollow promises of safety and prosperity. Dissenters who dare to question this fragile peace are swiftly branded as traitors and cast out as state enemies.

At the top of this list is the notorious Captain Harlock, a figure shrouded in legend and defiance. Branded as public enemy number one, he and his loyal crew aboard the Arcadia refuse to bow to the deceitful powers that be. As the only ones aware of the true threat posed by the Mazon, Harlock and his crew stand as the last line of defense for a world that has all but forgotten the meaning of freedom.
