This summer marks a powerful tribute to one of the most legendary superheroes ever created—Superman. To celebrate his enduring legacy, the United States Mint is releasing an exclusive series of collectibles featuring the Man of Steel. These include 24-karat gold coins, .999 fine silver medals (each accompanied by a serialized Certificate of Authenticity), and non-precious metal (clad) medals—each one a striking homage to the iconic hero.
The obverse (front) design of these coins and medals was crafted by Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna. It portrays Superman in flight above the Kent family farm in Smallville, a heartfelt nod to his humble beginnings. The rising Sun shines brightly in the background, symbolizing both the nurturing environment that shaped young Clark Kent and the celestial power source that fuels Superman’s extraordinary abilities. Inscriptions vary by material: the gold coin features “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2025”; the silver medal bears “LIBERTY” and “2025”; and the clad medal is inscribed simply with “LIBERTY.”
On the reverse (back), Mint Medallic Artist Joseph V. Noorigian offers a thoughtful interpretation of Superman’s inner world. This design delves into the duality of his identity and the concept of discovering the hero within. A young Clark Kent is depicted in a moment of introspection, gazing upward as a plane soars through the sky, perhaps imagining the future that awaits him. In the background, his adoptive father, Pa Kent, observes with quiet understanding, aware that his son is destined for greatness and that the time will soon come for him to embark on that journey.
This beautifully designed series is more than just a collectible—it’s a celebration of hope, identity, and the timeless story of Superman’s journey from farm boy to superhero.
