I am clueless about memes, I could not be bothered.  My kids keep me updated to the latest pop linguistic trends. Popular comic strip (if you want to call it that) XKCD explores the cult of the meme.

A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena.
