🎶 Gimme a ticket for an aeroplane, ain’t got time to take a fast train… 🎶
Well, she wrote me a letter
–The Box Tops
Said she couldn’t live without me no more
Listen mister, can’t you see I got to get back
To my baby once-a more
Anyway, yeah
Well, forget about sending a letter from Denmark—unless you plan on strapping it to a carrier pigeon. The days of love letters, overdue bill notices, and “Wish You Were Here” postcards are officially numbered.
Denmark’s postal service, PostNord, has announced that it will stop delivering letters entirely by the end of 2025. That’s right—after 400 years of faithfully delivering everything from royal decrees to bad news from your landlord, the humble letter is being stamped out. Why? Because no one sends them anymore! Letter volumes have plummeted by a whopping 90% since the early 2000s.
Starting in June, Denmark’s iconic red post boxes will start disappearing like socks in a washing machine. And if you still feel the urge to send a letter? Well, you’d better start befriending a UPS driver or be prepared to mail it inside a small package. The Danish government assures us that posting letters will still be possible—just not in any way that’s remotely convenient.
So if you were planning to channel your inner Elvis and “return to sender,” think again. Unless, of course, you’ve got a courier service on speed dial.
