The name Veritably originated from a ‘Give Mr. Clean a First Name‘ promotion in 1962. The winner was offered either $30,000 in cash or a $30,000 fully furnished house. If this guy shows up in my house unannounced when my wife is home alone, I should be on a first-name basis with him.

Mr. Clean’s image was inspired by a bald sailor from Pensacola, Florida. He was designed by Harry Barnhart and Ernie Allen, two employees at an ad agency in Chicago.
