Sometimes I feel my wife pampers our dogs at times more than our family. Food advertising is a big industry. Warren Dotz the author of Ad Boy: Vintage Advertising with Character and Meet Mr. Product: The Art of the Advertising Character is up to his old tricks with his co-author Masud Husain. They amassed a collection of old pet food vintage ads with a duo collection of books of Dog Food for Thought and its companion book, Cat Food for Thought .
I have a bias for dogs but highly recommend the cat book also. Pets are not picky when it comes to advertising. Companies cater to their owners. It’s amazing how advertising approaches the pet market when it comes to pet food. Warren’s books are eye candy for the brain, his selection and theme ideas are a great addition to any collection for both artists and non artists. There is plenty of food for thought in these little books that will keep your brain hungry for more.
Being a commercial artist, I find these two books a great inspiration. I am presently in the middle of a campaign in creating a full package for a new dog food product for a bakery and these books came in very handy for me. Keep an eye on these two little gems at your bookstore or online. They are nicely priced and will not break any budget for both books.
