“Shrek 5” is officially in the works and is set to swamp theaters on July 1, 2026, just in time for the 25th anniversary of the first Shrek film. Oh, what a merry day it’ll be in the land of Far Far Away!
The original voice actors are coming back, with Mike Myers as the lovable green ogre Shrek, Eddie Murphy as his trusty and hilarious steed Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as the feisty and enchanting Princess Fiona.
Now, let’s take a stroll down memory lane. The original 2001 flick had Shrek embarkin’ on a quest with Donkey to rescue Princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fearsome dragon. But this isn’t an ordinary fairytale, oh no! Things took a wild twist when it was revealed that Fiona turned into an ogre after dark. And she kept that ogre look after she and Shrek fell head over heels in love.
Over the years, the story grew and stretched its legs in follow-up films: 2004’s “Shrek 2,” 2007’s “Shrek the Third,” and the grand finale of the franchise in 2010, “Shrek Forever After.” But now, it seems the tale isn’t over just yet. So grab your onions and get ready for more ogre-sized adventures!
