According to Jason Calacanis, he has tried to delete his Facebook account without success. His account is still active after 20 days and counting. He has sent stern emails to both Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg asking why his account was not deactivated.
Jason thinks the reason for his account still being active is due other factors.
“Seems my personal Facebook got turned back on by a 3rd party service that logged into it.”
Later clarifying his statement. Clearly contradicting his first statement.
“the third party sites didn’t turn it back on… i needed to login to a 3rd party site that i used FB connect on (i think last week)… might have been an iphone app, i can’t remember. so then my account goes back on and all the connected services start flooding it.“
Facebook has come out and in not so many words accused Jason Calacanis as being a liar. This scare mongering by internet well known bloggers such as Jason only causes more confusion for the casual user. Lines are being drawn right now between Facebook and other sites losing users. If Facebook cannot fortify their business plan, then the causal user will fall victim to tons of misinformation out there.
It seems there is a growing backlash at Facebook as of late. Facebook is getting ever bigger and many don’t know what to do with a site that collects voluntary personal information by users. Many see the information as a potential weapon for harvesting information for monetary gain by both Facebook and online predators. Many feel helpless when they are not able to truly understand privacy options offered by Facebook. What was a simple task is now a complicated process for some. Jason like many other are trying to expose the vulnerability of the user to something bigger than them as a whole. Privacy security will always be Facebook’s kryptonite.
