Fleetwood Mac: Best of 1969-1974

In the late 1960s, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, John McVie, and Jeremy Spencer came together to lay the groundwork for what would eventually become one of the most iconic and successful bands in rock history: Fleetwood Mac. Their collaboration and creative synergy during this formative period set the stage for the band’s enduring legacy, marking the beginning of a journey that would see them evolve and achieve unparalleled success in the music world.

True fans of Fleetwood Mac will love this greatest hits album, as it highlights the band’s transitional period before they achieved worldwide fame. These albums represent a time of self-discovery and evolution for the band, which might not be as well-known or celebrated but are deeply appreciated by those who value the raw and experimental stages of their music. Although the band might prefer to move past these years, there is undeniable charm and creativity in this era that resonates with many listeners.

This brand-new compilation celebrates the early years of Fleetwood Mac, spanning from 1969 to 1974. The release features selections from the albums Then Play On (1969), Kiln House (1970), Future Games (1971), Bare Trees (1972), Penguin (1973), Mystery To Me (1973), and Heroes Are Hard To Find (1974). It includes classic tracks such as “Oh Well (Pt. 1),” “Jewel Eyed Judy,” “Future Games,” “Hypnotized,” “Prove Your Love,” “The Green Manalishi”, and many more.

James McNair’s new liner notes accompany the compilation and expertly navigate the band’s twisting timeline during this period. He writes: “By the time of Fleetwood Mac’s winter 1971 U.S. tour, Christine McVie was a fully-fledged member. Her keyboard-playing and co-lead vocals alongside those of Kirwan and Spencer were integral in the wake of Green’s departure… Alas, any calm seas were short-lived; Fleetwood Mac was still a volatile ship. Spencer, too, was about to go missing in action.”

This release will serve as a perfect companion piece to the current Fleetwood Mac – Greatest Hits, which focuses on tracks from 1975 and beyond. By showcasing the rich and diverse catalog of their early years, this compilation offers a deeper appreciation for the band’s journey and musical heritage.
