I stumbled across this charming, genuinely wholesome animated short, Foools from Warner Bros., created by Seo Kim and Steve Manale, while going down that familiar YouTube rabbit hole. Gems like this tend to find you when you least expect them. Foools is part of the Cartoon Cartoons YouTube channel, which showcases a new era of short-form animated shorts, featuring original, often unaired concepts, with new shorts every Monday.
The animated short unfolds in a faraway world where everyone speaks Circush, a playful, untranslatable language that somehow makes everything feel even more universal. You don’t need to understand a single word to follow along. Through expressive animation and heartfelt moments, characters like Ham and Eex try to comfort little Nod after her beloved fireflies disappear, turning a small act of kindness into something magical.
At its core, Foools is a simple yet touching story: a small circus clown discovers the true meaning of friendship when those around her come together to bake her a cake made of stars. It’s whimsical, no question, but there’s also a quiet emotional layer that gently sneaks up on you. The stop-motion look and playful gibberish clown talk are absolutely adorable; it feels warm and welcoming. So far, it’s the best short in this collection.
It instantly brought me back to The Magic Roundabout, with that same innocence, gentle storytelling, and slightly surreal charm. It has that rare ability to feel both nostalgic and fresh at the same time, like rediscovering a childhood cartoon you didn’t know you missed. It also echoes elements of the 1966 French series Kiri the Clown, which shares similar themes rooted in circus life.
In a world that often feels loud and overcomplicated, this kind of storytelling Foools is a breath of fresh air. It taps into something universal, reminding us what it felt like to be a kid, watching something in a language we didn’t understand, yet somehow understanding everything.
