Godzilla Stomp! When Fairy Tales Meet Monster-Sized Mayhem

Happily-ever-after is about to get flattened! KRA-KOOM! STOMP! CRASH! Katherine Locke’s 40-page children’s picture book Godzilla Stomp!, illustrated by Nikolas Ilic, unleashes the King of the Monsters on some very familiar fairy tales. And those storybook characters are in for one heck of a rude awakening!

The Gingerbread Man is off to visit the Muffin Man, Little Red Riding Hood is heading to Grandma’s, and Cinderella is getting ready for the Royal Ball. Everything is going according to plan until the ground starts shaking. THUD! THUD! THUD! Oh, crumbs. Somebody forgot to check the monster forecast!

Godzilla has arrived, and FairyTale Land is about to experience some serious property damage. KRAAASH! BOOM! STOMP! Hansel and Gretel have a new problem, Jack’s beanstalk could use a structural inspection, and Cinderella might want to rethink those glass slippers if she’s planning a quick getaway. This is no ordinary bedtime story; it’s a kaiju-sized fairy-tale demolition derby!

Locke and Ilic turn classic storybook favourites into a playful monster mash, complete with comic-book chaos and a towering terror who clearly hasn’t mastered the art of making an entrance without wrecking the neighbourhood. But can anyone teach Godzilla a little storybook etiquette before he turns every happily-ever-after into a pile of rubble?

STOP, DON’T STOMP! That’s the lesson when the King of the Monsters comes crashing through your favourite fairy tales. Happily-ever-after might survive, but it could use a hard hat, a rebuilding budget and a very sturdy pair of boots. Now that’s a bedtime story with a serious case of the stomps!

Godzilla Stomp! is available from Penguin Books.
