Iggy Pop has re-invented himself many times as a recording artist since the late sixties. At one time he was regarded as the replacement for Jim Morrison for the Doors. Living the lifestyle of Jim Morrison did not land him that gig. Legend has it that Iggy Pop asked permission from Moe Howard, the last surviving member of the Three Stooges to use the name Stooges. Iggy Pop and the Stooges were always about raw power. Ready To Die is their new offering and it does not miss a beat from their first albums. I don’t think they are ready to die yet, the Stooges still have more vigor than most punk bands in the past forty years. Iggy might just get himself in hot water for the image on his new offering. Strapped with dynamite with a sharpshooting gun aimed at him might be a metaphor for his career but many might see a different view due to recent terrorist happenings as of late.

“Williamson, 63, and Iggy Pop, 66, have done the improbable and made a new record. Ready to Die, out April 30, may not stand up to the intensity of so much other punk music made in the last four decades, but it’s a fun romp. With humor intact and the guitar loud, Ready to Die — from its rockers to its surprisingly reflective ballads — ought to have Pop, Williamson, original drummer Scott Asheton and Mike Watt (filling in for the late Ron Asheton on bass) feeling awfully proud.”-via NPR
