Iron Butterfly’s, In-A Gadda-Da-Vida was supposed to be sound-check jam. The band liked it so much that it was included on their album in 1968. The over 17 minute song took a whole side of a record album. This was the year that psychedelic music began a transition into heavy metal. Iron Butterfly was one of the first groups to go heavier but could not hold on enough to benefit from the fruits that they planted. Other groups such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath listened and branched out more into the realm of Heavy Metal. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida plays a big role in the evolution of music. Many groups tried to copy and pay tribute to the song. Nothing compares to the original. Here is In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida’s greatest hits.
