The future just arrived today. Amazon just released Astro, a robot that will make home life a bit more interesting. I just need that moving sidewalk.
Keep home closer with Astro, the household robot for home monitoring, with Alexa. When you’re away, use the Astro app to see a live view of your home, check in on specific rooms and viewpoints, and get activity alerts. When you’re home, Astro can follow you from room to room playing your favorite music, podcasts, or shows, and find you to deliver calls, reminders, alarms, and timers set with Alexa.
With the Astro app, you can see a live view of your home and check in on specific rooms, people, or things. During setup, Astro learns a map of your home that you can view in the app at any time. Simply tap where you want Astro to go, then raise or lower the periscope for a better look. You can even sound a siren if you see something suspicious.
Astro has a rotating screen on wheels and features animated eyes that can respond to user interaction. The robot can also move from room to room while avoiding obstacles inside the home.

Astro is built on Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant and can perform multiple tasks including recommending TV shows, deliver reminders, and provide updates on Amazon deliveries.
“Astro will bring all of your favorite Alexa features like music, news, podcasts, and timers directly to you,” Amazon said in a news release. “Or, if you’re doing a video call, Astro will move with you around the house, so that you can continue the conversation.”
According to Amazon, you will also be able to turn on “do not disturb” to limit how many times Astro moves while you’re trying to sleep.
Coming soon: Alexa Together is a new way to remotely care for your aging loved ones, giving you peace of mind while helping them live independently.
