John Fogerty Reclaims His Legacy with New Album Celebrating Creedence Clearwater Revival Years
John Fogerty’s decades-long legal battle with Fantasy Records is the stuff of rock ‘n’ roll legend. After years of struggling to control the music he created, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer has finally come full circle. Now 80 years old, Fogerty has reclaimed the rights to his iconic Creedence Clearwater Revival catalog, marking a monumental moment in his storied career.
In celebration, Fogerty is set to release Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years on August 22, 2025, via Concord. This 20-track collection reimagines some of his most beloved songs—including “Proud Mary,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Fortunate Son,” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain”—offering fans powerful new recordings that honor the past while injecting fresh life into these classics.
What sets Legacy apart is its deeply personal touch. Produced by John alongside his son Shane Fogerty, with executive production from his wife Julie Fogerty, the album is a family labor of love. “I knew firsthand how much it meant for John to get his publishing back,” Julie says. “It has been so joyful and beautiful since this happened for him. This is a celebration of his life’s work. It is the biggest party for the good guy/artist winning.”
Shane and his brother Tyler perform throughout the album, which also features veteran musicians Matt Chamberlain, Bob Malone, Bob Glaub, and Rob Stone. The project was mixed by legendary engineer Bob Clearmountain, known for capturing the energy and soul of classic rock at its finest.
Legacy isn’t just a greatest hits collection—it’s a statement of creative freedom and a long-overdue victory lap. These new versions may stir debate among long-time fans—will they embrace the fresh renditions or hold fast to the originals?—but what’s undeniable is the spirit behind the music: an artist finally taking back what’s his and sharing it on his terms.
