Did Popeye ever meet Superman? They never met but Captain Horatio Strong did challenge Superman. The knockoff Popeye character went head to head with Superman in 1973. Superman encounters Captain Strong, a sailor who becomes super-powerful by eating seaweed grown from alien spores.
