The newspapers would like to lead you to believe that the industry is doing great. The ink running is black and not red, however, the economics will easily persuade you with falling revenue from advertising is not generated from the print editions. It flows now for digital editions and will increase with the help of new e-readers in the horizon. Before the dawning of such gadgets, Google Fast Flip is doing a great job in pooling together some of the best newspaper and magazine stories on the net. The writing is on the wall, the Twitter/Facebook generation want their information fast and furious. If it sits on a newsstand it will stay there. There will be a day when Wi-Fi will be on planes, trains, and automobiles and all your information will flow into new light portable devices that will hold in memory books, newspapers, magazines, and other forms of media content. All these different medias will be consolidated as just entertainment and will merge into one form. Newspapers and magazines will be a thing of the past. For now Google Fast Flip might be a way to compile that information for the future. Those trying to stay above the waters of despair will have to make deals with Google or Apple, perhaps a new dark horse online entity will redefine information like we have never seen it. Good money will bet that Google and Apple are drawing the lines of who will rule this new information highway. The roads are being cemented and drying out, we will soon travel new uncharted venues. Those who come early will carve themselves new niches of wealth at the expense of years of newspaper freedom of expression. The less outlets available will stifle our freedom, when news becomes a monopoly we are no longer in control.
