The Story of Bottled Water

A funny thing happened to some of my parks, the public water fountain just disappeared from the parks. Vandalism you might think. Is there a bigger underlying scheme here? The Story of Bottled Water examines the true nature of the aqua business of selling bottled water and believing it is better than tap water found in your home. Have we become so conditioned in the believe that tap water is inferior than bottled water? Greed being the driving force of many bottled water companies cannot justify the harm of their industry to the environment. There is only one person who can stop the consumerism of water and keeping nature clean from endless mounds of bottles in landfills serving no purpose. You and you alone can be that force. Don’t tap out. Tap your glass with cold water.

The Story of Bottled Water, released on March 22, 2010 (World Water Day) employs the Story of Stuff style to tell the story of manufactured demand—how you get Americans to buy more than half a billion bottles of water every week when it already flows from the tap. Over five minutes, the film explores the bottled water industrys attacks on tap water and its use of seductive, environmental-themed advertising to cover up the mountains of plastic waste it produces. The film concludes with a call to take back the tap, not only by making a personal commitment to avoid bottled water, but by supporting investments in clean, available tap water for all.
