Uncertain Future

    Uncertain Future

Uncertain Futures is a visual history of the Cold War era through science fiction in America. Morgan Hubbard examines the early days of science fiction in America and the significance of it on world literature.

“Uncertain Futures” began as an attempt to explain the explosion of science fiction on the American literary scene in the first two decades of the cold war era. I began with the hypothesis that beginning in summer 1945, science fiction owed its popularity to the atomic bomb and the cold war with the Soviet Union, and the host of anxieties those two developments produced in American culture and politics.
