Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Trailer Goes Full Chaos

The trailer is out, and yes, it looks exactly as unhinged as the title suggests. They’re on a quest to save us all. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe premieres July 23 on HBO Max, expanding the The Big Bang Theory universe into full multiverse chaos.

The premise stays simple on paper but gets wild in execution. Stuart accidentally triggers an apocalyptic event, breaks reality in the process, and then gets stuck trying to patch everything back together. Along the way, he and his crew run into alternate versions of familiar characters, which only makes the situation more unstable, more chaotic, and a lot more comic-book-adjacent than anyone probably expected from a sitcom spinoff.

Early standout moments in the teaser include Kripke fully transformed into a mad, post-apocalyptic military dictator, a version of the character that feels like a surprisingly strong fit in the fractured timeline they are building. It is one of the more intriguing glimpses into how far the show is willing to push its alternate realities.

There is also a divide forming in reaction to Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman) finally getting center stage. For years, he and his comic book store crew were treated as flat, one-note side characters, and some viewers are still not convinced they can carry an entire series. Others are just glad to see him finally get the spotlight.

The trailer doubles down on wormholes, giant bugs, and “variant” versions of characters, leaning heavily into Marvel-style multiverse tropes while still keeping a sitcom DNA underneath it all.

Now that the teaser has landed, it fully commits to the weirdness. It is surreal, slightly absurd, and completely convinced that Stuart is somehow the guy holding the collapsing universe together, whether he is qualified or not.
