Check out Liz Sexton’s realistic papier-mâché masks of marine animals, which beautifully highlight some of our favorite underwater species.

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is hosting an upcoming solo exhibition titled “Out of Water,” featuring lifelike wearable sculptures that highlight the importance of aquatic ecosystems for various beings. The sculptures, which are based on barnacles and belugas, are depicted in atmospheric settings through photographs taken by the artist’s partner and collaborator, Ben Toht.

Each animal’s unique details and expressions are captured in the stunning images. The portraits cleverly contrast the creatures with unexpected settings such as a supermarket freezer section, a campsite, or a laundry facility.
