Lost Final Episode Explained

The more I keep thinking about the Lost final episode, a few things are bothering me. Eko was building a church. Remember that? Claire’s baby is still a baby in heaven. Why? Simple. Claire’s baby never died on the island. Everybody died on the island at different points. Jack and the rest of the gang all died on the island and lived in purgatory awaiting the rest of the other souls. The second Oceanic Six did escape, but as the first Oceanic Six knew things were not that better in the real world. Sun’s baby doesn’t appear in the afterlife time-line because she was not born on the island. I believe that Kate and Sawyer must have come back to the island later on and died there too. The island claimed all the souls of humans and that is the source of the light and mystery of the island. They all returned to the light as Jack brought the light back in both realities.

Eko told Bernard, “People are saved in different ways,” in response to Bernard’s frustration that they were building a church when he wanted help building an SOS sign. The souls were being saved on two different levels, a spiritual one and a physical one.

That’s it for me. Well done. You got me thinking. It was a great run for six years. I am sure other thoughts will creep in my head. There is so much more to absorb here. In a nutshell it was about purgatory and accession to the next level. Forgiveness. I forgive you for teasing me for six years.

I leave you with this passage from William Blake:

We are led to believe a lie

When we see not through the eye

Which was born in a night to perish in a night,

When the soul slept in beams of light.

God appears, and God is light

To those poor souls who dwell in night,

But does a human form display

To those who dwell in realms of day.

Why babies were not born on the island? Simple. The island only claimed souls that were sinful. All pre-babies are void of sin, but now the question is at what stage of birth did Alex become sinful? Aaron too was born on the island. They were both conceived off the island in a sinful environment but born on the island. Hence we can say that people without sin cannot go to purgatory, they go to heaven. Even Jacob and MIB were conceived off the island but born on it.
