Kino Lorber releases Miklós Jancsó 7-movie collection on Blu-ray

Screenwriter and director Miklós Jancsó (pronounced “yon-cho,” rhyming with “poncho”) was the creator of a unique film language centered around his mastery of the tracking shot. The first internationally recognized representative of modern Hungarian filmmaking, his extraordinary works examined oppressive authority and the mechanics of power. Kino Lorber is proud to present six of his classic features restored in 4K from their original camera negatives by the National Film Institute Hungary – Film Archive.

Francis the Talking Mule – 7 Film Collection

I can't believe that this franchise has seven films under its belt. Francis: The Talking Mule originated in the 1946 novel Francis by former U.S. Army Captain David Stern III, son of newspaper publisher J. David Stern. Now you can have the seven-film collection on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber. The sixth movie of the series features Clint Eastwood's first credited role.

The Criterion Collection: Walker on Blu-ray

Out this week is The Criterion Collection: Walker on Blu-ray. This movie not only has Joe Strummer as an actor but Strummer also composed the whole soundtrack. Inspired by the music of the area where the movie was shot, this is a fine film to add to your collection. It takes liberties as a timepiece movie to play with accuracy. An unconventional retelling of the life of William Walker, a 19th-century American mercenary leader who became the president of Nicaragua. All can be forgiven for a great little film.

The Wonderful World of Brothers Grimm Deluxe Edition

I recently heard an old podcast Stuff You Should Know titled How Grimm's Fairy Tales Work. I was treated to the origins of the Brothers Grimm's true stories. The Brothers Grimm stories have been around for such a long time that they have embedded themselves in Hollywood and pop culture more than ever since it was first published. Walt Disney sanitized most of the stories to stockpile their fortunes. The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm is a 1962 fantasy film directed by Henry Levin and George Pal. The film was one of the highest-grossing films of 1962. It won one Oscar and was nominated for three additional Academy Awards. Several prominent actors—including Laurence Harvey, Karlheinz Böhm, Jim Backus, Barbara Eden, and Buddy Hackett—are in the film.

Coogan’s Bluff Blu-ray

Star Clint Eastwood and director Don Siegel (Two Mules for Sister Sara, The Beguiled, Dirty Harry, Escape from Alcatraz) began their legendary collaboration with the crackerjack crime thriller Coogan’s Bluff. Eastwood commands the screen as Walt Coogan, an Arizona deputy sheriff who is sent to New York City to extradite captured murderer James Ringerman (Don Stroud, Joe Kidd). Coogan slips up, Ringerman escapes again, and the hunt is on! Coogan’s unorthodox law enforcement techniques don’t go over too well with frustrated NYC Police Lieutenant McElroy.
