Take the thrill of insane stunts and the excitement of rock ’n’ roll, fuse them together and you get Stunt Rock! The madness starts when real-life Australian stuntman Grant Page (Mad Max) goes to L.A. and meets up with a theatrical rock band called Sorcery, and Page impresses the rockers so much with his daredevil antics that they hire him for their act.

Marvel Studios has acquired rights to use Stan Lee’s name, voice, likeness and signature in movies and television projects for 20 years

As every comic fan knows, characters never die in comics. Now that has extended into reality. Marvel Studios has purchased the Stan Lee name and likeness to their brand for 20 years. Does this mean we will be getting more Stan Lee cameos in future movies? He was always a larger-than-life character.

Kino Lorber releases Miklós Jancsó 7-movie collection on Blu-ray

Screenwriter and director Miklós Jancsó (pronounced “yon-cho,” rhyming with “poncho”) was the creator of a unique film language centered around his mastery of the tracking shot. The first internationally recognized representative of modern Hungarian filmmaking, his extraordinary works examined oppressive authority and the mechanics of power. Kino Lorber is proud to present six of his classic features restored in 4K from their original camera negatives by the National Film Institute Hungary – Film Archive.

Documentary WATERMAN captures the life of Duke Kahanamoku

WATERMAN chronicles the life of five-time Olympic medalist and Hawaiian surfing icon Duke Kahanamoku or “The Duke.” Widely considered the “father of modern surfing,” his success elevated the sport into the cultural phenomenon it is today. Narrated by Jason Momoa (Aquaman, Game of Thrones, Dune)and directed by Isaac Halisama, the documentary explores his journey breaking racial barriers on the mainland and influencing surfing’s global spread as well as his life-saving achievements and the obstacles he conquered both within and outside the sporting world.

Tails of the Super-Pets

DC League of Super-Pets the animated movie should be a romp. It is scheduled to be released on July 29, 2022, by Warner Bros. Pictures. Adventure abounds with the backstories of the paperback collection of super-pet stories. Tails of the Super-Pets is a great catch-up before the animated movie. The animated feature boosts the motley cast including Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Thomas Middleditch, Ben Schwartz, and Keanu Reeves. Marc Maron voices the dastardly Lex Luthor. I figured they would make him voice Streaky, the Super-Cat.

Francis the Talking Mule – 7 Film Collection

I can't believe that this franchise has seven films under its belt. Francis: The Talking Mule originated in the 1946 novel Francis by former U.S. Army Captain David Stern III, son of newspaper publisher J. David Stern. Now you can have the seven-film collection on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber. The sixth movie of the series features Clint Eastwood's first credited role.

Jayne Mansfield: “The Girl Can’t Help It ” (The Criterion Collection)

In 1956, Frank Tashlin brought the talent for zany visual gags and absurdist pop-culture satire that he’d honed as a master of animation to the task of capturing, in glorious DeLuxe Color, a brand-new craze: rock and roll. The Girl Can’t Help It bops along to a parade of performances by rock-and-roll trailblazers—including Little Richard, Fats Domino, Julie London, Eddie Cochran, the Platters, and Gene Vincent—who light up the screen with the uniquely American sound that was about to conquer the world.

The Criterion Collection: Walker on Blu-ray

Out this week is The Criterion Collection: Walker on Blu-ray. This movie not only has Joe Strummer as an actor but Strummer also composed the whole soundtrack. Inspired by the music of the area where the movie was shot, this is a fine film to add to your collection. It takes liberties as a timepiece movie to play with accuracy. An unconventional retelling of the life of William Walker, a 19th-century American mercenary leader who became the president of Nicaragua. All can be forgiven for a great little film.

Vinyl Nation – A Documentary About the Return of Records

Vinyl Nation digs into the crates of the record resurgence in search of truths set in deep wax: Has the return of vinyl made music fandom more inclusive or divided? What does vinyl say about our past here in the present? How has the second life of vinyl changed how we hear music and how we listen to each other? The documentary features Judy Mills, Ashley C. Ford, Kelly Stacy, John Vanderslice, Kutmasta Kurt, Alyson Baker, Kelley Stoltz, Ben Blackwell, Billy Fields, Roz Lee, and Ashleyanne Krigbaum.

The Wonderful World of Brothers Grimm Deluxe Edition

I recently heard an old podcast Stuff You Should Know titled How Grimm's Fairy Tales Work. I was treated to the origins of the Brothers Grimm's true stories. The Brothers Grimm stories have been around for such a long time that they have embedded themselves in Hollywood and pop culture more than ever since it was first published. Walt Disney sanitized most of the stories to stockpile their fortunes. The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm is a 1962 fantasy film directed by Henry Levin and George Pal. The film was one of the highest-grossing films of 1962. It won one Oscar and was nominated for three additional Academy Awards. Several prominent actors—including Laurence Harvey, Karlheinz Böhm, Jim Backus, Barbara Eden, and Buddy Hackett—are in the film.
