Dr. Seuss & Co. Go to War: The World War II Editorial Cartoons of America’s Leading Comic Artists

This little gem got under the radar. Andre Schiffrin collects the pre-Seuss classic editorial cartoons. True Seuss collectors will enjoy this book precursor to the children’s line of books that Theodore Seuss Geisel would revolutionize learning in the 50’s. Dr. Seuss & Co. Go to War: The World War II Editorial Cartoons of America’s Leading Comic Artists is a great collection of a turbulent time in the world as seen through the eyes of some of editorial cartoonists of the time who later became part of history too.

Andre Schiffrin presents a collection of political cartoons by Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss) from the pages of New York’s former daily newspaper, PM, which published from 1940-1948. The collection also includes work by other artists, including Al Hirschfeld and Saul Steinberg. Andre Schiffrin discusses his book with Paul Milkman author of PM: A New Deal in Journalism at New York University in New York City.
