As of November 2nd, Opus will finally end. This Sunday only strip has been an disappointment as many other incarnations of Bloom County. Calvin and Hobbes is a perfect example of knowing when to hang it up. Berkeley Breathed just didn’t know when to go gently into that night of cartooning retirement. It’s too bad, his legacy is tainted with his bastardizing of Opus. At one time Opus was in stratosphere of the likes of Snoopy with an edge to him.
