Sunday’s Fun Day, Charlie Brown

As a kid, there was not much in book collections when it came to comics. What kids got were Mad Magazine and Peanuts paperbacks. Throughout the years, I amassed a very large collection of Charlie Brown paperbacks. Sunday's Fun Day, Charlie Brown is a great reprint of the original book printed in 1965. The 12th in the series collects Sunday strips from 1962-1965. This was at the height of Charles M. Schulz's rendition of the classic characters. Some significant events happened in those three years, one major one is that Snoopy was finally revealed to be a beagle.

Animal Stories by Peter Hoey & Maria Hoey

After tremendous acclaim for their series Coin-Op Comics, two brilliant creators present their first graphic novel: a menagerie of wild tales. Pushing the boundaries of their dazzling and unique narrative style, Animal Stories weaves together six short stories exploring the mysterious relationships between humans and other animals.

Here’s Joe Cool by Youtooz

Here’s Joe Cool... Another one of Snoopy’s many alter egos, Joe Cool is a college student who’s too cool for you. You can always find him hanging around the student union while eyeing chicks. No way! He’s chill, as he leans back with one paw on a brick wall outside of the college.

The Long Take by Robin Robertson

Better late than never. Here is a little gem that flew under my radar. I am enamored with narrative poetry. The Long Take by Robin Robertson harks to works such as Joseph Moncure March’s The Set-Up and The Wild Party. I discovered The Long Take through the library app, Libby. I plan to buy a hardcopy version of the book. Being a Film Noir enthusiast, this is a great find. Narrative poetry is a niche market, when you find a good one, you cannot put it down.

Taiwanese Lecturer Draws Amazing Anatomical Drawings on Chalkboard

Chuan-Bin Chung is an art lecturer at the Shu-Te University of Taiwan giving Anatomy of Arts and Painting Skill classes. If only some teachers in North America were as dedicated as him, they would aspire the youngsters to bigger things. Lead by example. I am truly impressed by his dedication or perhaps his school does not have a budget for an interactive projector.

I Can Read It All by Myself: The Beginner Books Story by Paul V. Allen

The Beginner Books have always had an enriched history in my household. So much so that the original teeth marks of my son graces the covers of Cat in the Hat and other "Beginner" books that we subscribed to when he was young. I treasure those books so much, they bring back good memories. Paul V. Allen has finally given the world the story of I Can Read It All by Myself: The Beginner Books Story.

Adults by Schulz

Charles M. Schulz created some of the world’s most recognizable young characters, but Peanuts was not his only foray into the funny pages. Sometime in the mid-1950s, Schulz developed a concept for a workplace humor strip featuring adults. He titled it Hagemeyer, after his close friend from the Army.

Foo Fighters Morph Into The Dee Gees

Get out the disco balls, disco is back! Foo Fighters have announced that they will be releasing a new album next month under the moniker the Dee Gees. They just covered the Bee Gees' "You Should Be Dancing" during a BBC Radio 2 session a few months ago. I really like this version, I am really ashamed to say that this could be Foo Fighter's best song ever in a long time. Did grunge bring back disco? The disco-inspired album called ‘Hail Satin’ will be available on July 17. The album will include four Bee Gees covers.

The Patrick Star Show

The Patrick Star Show is the second spinoff of the number-one animated series SpongeBob SquarePants and follows a younger Patrick Star living at home with his family, where he hosts his own variety show for the neighborhood from his television-turned-bedroom. In the premiere episode, "Late for Breakfast," Patrick presents a show about food after missing out on a hearty breakfast.

The Raven [Blu-ray]

Lately, I've been in an Edgar Allan Poe mood. The Raven is perhaps the best-known piece from the gothic author. Roger Corman's cinematic adaption with scare meisters Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, and Peter Lorre brings out the best of the seasoned actors. This an excellent Blu-ray edition for any collection from KL Studio Classics. The best time to view The Raven is around Halloween.
