No game rule is finite, Scrabble is allowing proper nouns to come into play. Is this a lack of word reservoir from players or changing with the times? Place names, people’s names and company names or brands will now count as words. True connoisseurs are frowning at the newest prospect. The game Scrabble was created in 1938 by American-born architect Alfred Mosher Butts. That’s three new words for you. Alfred Mosher Butts.
“It’s such a part of the fabric of American life,” he said. “It’s about people’s love of words, it goes very, very deep. Certainly in our culture in North America you really don’t see this with any other game.”
