Slimming Down the Y.M.C.A. to the Y

Leave a Comment / By Tony M. / 13/07/2010

The Young Men’s Christian Association is getting a major revamp. The Y.M.C.A. was founded 166 years ago in England and for the past years people simply called it “the Y.” Just like KFC for others reasons to rid themselves of the word fried from their name, the Y.M.C.A. said it was time for change. Some people are saying that the Y.M.C.A. wants to shed the word Christian from their image and roots.

“It’s a way of being warmer, more genuine, more welcoming, when you call yourself what everyone else calls you,” said Kate Coleman for the Y.M.C.A.
