The Toxic Avenger is bubbling up once more from the radioactive sludge for a brand-new remake of the 1984 cult classic. Now officially the seventh film in the gloriously grotesque franchise, this modern reboot stars Peter Dinklage as the mop-wielding mutant hero. Heโs joined by a gunky ensemble cast including Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon.
After sloshing through a few film festivals in 2023 without finding a distributor brave enough to wade into its ooze-soaked waters, The Toxic Avenger finally found a champion in Cineverse. Now, itโs crawling out of the sewers and into theaters nationwide on August 29th.
Overflowing with over-the-top gore, sludge-slicked satire, and radioactive laughs, the film is far too filthy for the faint of heartโbut perfect for fans of underground cinema. Like its toxic predecessor, this reboot is ready to be flushed into midnight movie history. The original 1984 film oozed its way into cult legend status, spawning five sequels, a cartoon TV series, and decades of grime-loving fans.
If there’s a cleanup needed in the cinema aisles, donโt expect janitorial staffโexpect carnage. With mop in hand and justice in his mutated heart, our oozing antihero is ready to mop the floor with evildoers and spill more sludge than a ruptured sewer main.
This isnโt your average superhero comebackโthis is a full-blown toxic spill of absurd violence, grotesque gags, and gloriously grimy mayhem. If youโre sitting in the splash zone, consider this your only warning: The Toxic Avenger doesnโt just clean houseโฆ he melts it. Donโt count on fancy collectorโs buckets like the Marvel crowd getsโThe Toxic Avenger isnโt that polished. But hey, a melting green popcorn bucket? Now thatโs cinema sludge chic!
