I am in the mood for a good flick this weekend. Kanopy to the rescue. It pays to have a library card. With a limit of five films per month, Lydia Lunch: The War is Never Over by Beth B is getting my full attention this weekend. I honestly do not know much about Beth B, so this should be a treat.

Sure the comic book publishers had a well-established property by printing TV series in comic book form. Some were successful, others not so much. Kids from the 40s-to 80s were not spoiled with the internet like the kids of today. Comic books were the only extension outside the TV shows besides the novelization of top-notch shows. Peter Bosch brings out in full color those amazing TV show tie-ins comic books from yesterday. American TV Comic Books (1940s-1980s) by TwoMorrows Publishing is a great addition to your home library. I love Taschen books, anytime I get a chance to buy them at second-hand bookstores, I will not hesitate to buy them. However, when big volumes such as Marvel Comics Library Avengers Vol. 1 come into circulation, I will fork out the big bucks. The Avengers is another book that will not disappoint. Taschen does it better than the original comic book publishing houses. This volume collects the first 20 issues of the Avengers. Better get some Charles Atlas muscles to read this big volume.
In 1956, Frank Tashlin brought the talent for zany visual gags and absurdist pop-culture satire that he’d honed as a master of animation to the task of capturing, in glorious DeLuxe Color, a brand-new craze: rock and roll. The Girl Can’t Help It bops along to a parade of performances by rock-and-roll trailblazers—including Little Richard, Fats Domino, Julie London, Eddie Cochran, the Platters, and Gene Vincent—who light up the screen with the uniquely American sound that was about to conquer the world.
Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of those shows that is so addictive. With eleven seasons and a twelve one on the way, it's like a drug for laughter. The predictability of Larry David is the driving force of this show. Season eleven once again delivered with regular cast members and some new ones. This is a great season to add to your collection.
My Spidey senses are tingling with anticipation. Spider-Man is celebrating 60 years since he was created by Stan Lee and Steve Diko in 1961. Nothing like the clickity-clackity of a metallic mechanical keyboard. This is where old meets new. I can see myself pounding a few pages like the old pulp writers. The Qwerkywriter chassis is constructed entirely out of a scratch-resistant aluminum alloy for an incredible feel of quality and durability.

These pencil-wielding magicians might just like working under the cloak of anonymity. Disney+ is celebrating the men and women who make the true magic come to life. This is the perfect time to subscribe to Disney+ to watch SKETCHBOOK. I am really pumped in watching legendary Disney animator Eric Goldberg unleashing his craft upon the world. I came across The Surfrajettes by accident on YouTube. I got hooked instantly. I was surprised that the group originates from Toronto. Never knew there was great surfing on Ontario Lake. What else could a guy want, surfing music and go-go boots guitar-wielding girls? The Surfrajettes are taking it to another level with the release of their first full album. Roller Fink promises great things for the group.

Talk about cashing in. Collaboration between Authentic Hendrix, LLC; Sony Music’s merchandise wing, The Thread Shop; and retail platform Rock And Roll Beauty want you to be a Foxy Lady. The range includes the Voodoo Child Artistry Palette (which comes in a guitar-shaped compact), the Purple Haze candle, Foxy Lady matte lip duo (of lipstick and liner) and (seemingly, not quite done with the song name) the Purple Haze brush set.
Out this week is The Criterion Collection: Walker on Blu-ray. This movie not only has Joe Strummer as an actor but Strummer also composed the whole soundtrack. Inspired by the music of the area where the movie was shot, this is a fine film to add to your collection. It takes liberties as a timepiece movie to play with accuracy. An unconventional retelling of the life of William Walker, a 19th-century American mercenary leader who became the president of Nicaragua. All can be forgiven for a great little film.
I got TCM as my go-to station. My PVR is working overtime recording each week movies that matter. I value all the host's information about the movies that are about to show. Alicia Malone is a welcome addition to the station. Her keen movie sense brings a unique spin each week to movies we cherish. I am very excited to know she just released, Girls on Film: Witty Life Lessons from Alicia Malone from Mango Publishing. I am a fan of the hosts on TCM, nice to see Alicia share a bit more about herself through the movies she watches. Life imitates art some will say, Alicia, is just as glamourous as the film's actresses that she showcases each week. She is a jewel in the TCM family. This is one book you will not want to miss.

I recently heard an old podcast Stuff You Should Know titled How Grimm's Fairy Tales Work. I was treated to the origins of the Brothers Grimm's true stories. The Brothers Grimm stories have been around for such a long time that they have embedded themselves in Hollywood and pop culture more than ever since it was first published. Walt Disney sanitized most of the stories to stockpile their fortunes. The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm is a 1962 fantasy film directed by Henry Levin and George Pal. The film was one of the highest-grossing films of 1962. It won one Oscar and was nominated for three additional Academy Awards. Several prominent actors—including Laurence Harvey, Karlheinz Böhm, Jim Backus, Barbara Eden, and Buddy Hackett—are in the film.
