L.A. Woman (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)

I am really pumped for the 50th Anniversary of the L.A. Woman special collection. I own The Doors LA Woman: The Workshop Sessions (2012). This is a welcome extension to that release. 2021 is a big year for The Doors with a lot of new material coming out from Robby Kreiger's first book and the complete writings of Jim Morrison. Unfortunately, it is also the anniversary of Jim Morrison's death. There is a lot to celebrate. 1971 marked a turbulent time for Jim Morrison personally with his trouble with the law. Contractually the band owed Elektra Records one more record and boy did it payback in spades. For the next 50 years, “Love Her Madly,” “Riders On The Storm,” and "L.A. Woman" would grace the airwaves. Nobody knew at the time that this was their swan song. Maybe Jim Morrison had an inkling it was his last record but did not share that information with anybody including the band.

Gift Wrap My Face promotes full facial nudity for the 2021 holiday season

An inventive pair of advertising pros who were part of the group of geniuses at the agency behind the Burger King, Dominos, Microsoft and VW campaigns, has created a customized "selfie" wrapping paper company that is loved and used by Oprah, Khloe Kardashian and boasting sales that would make Hallmark jealous. Featuring maskless face photos of people and pets, Gift Wrap My Face, #GiftWrapMyFace adds them to the body of elves, snowmen, superheroes, astronauts, iconic statues, lamas or dancing with dreidels or menorahs. Gift Wrap My Face even created two Smart Wrapping Papers: one using augmented reality to enliven a face making a snow angel, a dancing elf and a Video Paper that uses a personalized and private QR code for gift-givers to share a video message with loved ones.

Set the Night on Fire: Living, Dying, and Playing Guitar With the Doors

At long last Robby Krieger has written his first book that Doors' fans will fall in love with. He is of the last three surviving band members after the death of Jim Morrison kept his silence from book form. Set the Night on Fire: Living, Dying, and Playing Guitar With the Doors with a little help from Jeff Alulis brings to the forefront an added view of perhaps the greatest band from the 60s. The legend of Jim Morrison has grown in 50 years and still keeps growing. I think we can put to rest that Jim Morrison is not alive. All the literature and music out there sustain Jim and the rest of the group alive for many generations to follow.

The books that Marilyn Monroe read

Marilyn Monroe was an avid reader and something of a culture vulture while she lived in New York. One would never guess from her on-screen roles where she played the opposite. Below, is a list of books owned by Marilyn Monroe auctioned at Christies-NY, October 28-29, 1999.

The Velvet Underground: A documentary film by Todd Hayne soundtrack

The Velvet Underground does not get proper praise from the general public. True fans are well aware of the importance of the band's importance in rock and roll history. Lou Reed's imprint on this band laid out his trajectory for his own solo career. The Velvets had a deep impact on David Bowie. The group was entrenched in the gutter of the psychedelic truth of the gritty drug culture of the 60s. The lyrics were not candy-coated, they painted a harsh reality of the facade of the "love generation." The was darkness festering at the seems of the peace movement and The Velvet Underground exposed them in their early work. People were in denial, they did not want to hear dark tones of despair "The Velvet Underground: A Documentary Film By Todd Haynes" is a deep-dive into the group as never seen before. This is a great beginning point for new listeners to purchase the new 2CD and digital soundtrack and true fans who will get some new material.

Spider-Man’s debut comic book sells for $3.6 million to become the world’s most valuable comic book

Just amazing! Amazing Fantasy #15 has just dethroned Superman's first appearance in Action Comics #1 as the most valuable comic. The 9.6 mint condition comic book just sold for 3.6 million at Heritage Auctions. Well, that is another record that DC Comics lost out to Marvel Comics. There are two ways of looking at this. Either the market is reflecting the true nature of the market or somebody got ripped.

Batman In The Fifties

The 1950s was a decade of change for the Dark Knight Detective, one that introduced new friends—and foes! These tales include the debuts of Deadshot, a future member of the Suicide Squad; the original Batwoman, Kathy Kane; Mr. Zero, who would go on to greater fame as the nefarious Mr. Freeze; the original Red Hood; and the pesky interdimensional pixie known as Bat-Mite. This was also an era of great inventiveness, with tales that revealed how Batman’s own father, Thomas Wayne, was once a Batman himself; how Batman became a Superman-like hero on the distant planet Zur-En-Arrh; the secrets of Batman’s utility belt; and the introduction of an all-new Batmobile.

Box Of Pin-Ups: The British Sounds Of 1965

The latest installment in Grapefruit's acclaimed series of 3-CD, four-hour celebrations of a specific calendar year in British pop history. 1965 saw the beat/R&B revolution of the previous two years twisted into new, more ambitious shapes as British pop reached a shattering crescendo of sound, with feedback, fuzzboxes and (in Graham Bond's case) the Mellotron adding to the sonic mix. The year was a dizzying melange of visceral Pretty Things/Kinks/Small Faces garage band raunch, blue-eyed club soul (courtesy of mod-favored groups like The Action), Searchers-derived jingle-jangle folk-rock and Zombies/Poets-style minor chord introspection.

Today, Trek fans champion its writing, progressive social consciousness, and aesthetic. Designing the Final Frontier is a unique, expert look at the mid-century modern design that created and inspired that aesthetic. From Burke chairs to amorphous sculptures, from bright colors to futuristic frames, Star Trek TOS is bursting with mid-century modern furniture, art, and design elements—many of them bought directly from famous design showrooms.
